Worst logo fails that’ll make you laugh so hard!
The most important thing when it comes to marketing can be a good Logo design. This not only gives an identity to the brand but also a design that is enough it can communicate what the brand is all about. This is exactly why corporations spend a lot of time, money and effort in choosing the right logo for their organization or products, yet we get to see many logo fails.
Recently, Myntra, an online fashion retailer was forced to change its logo as activists asserted that the logo is “offensive” to women and that it “depicts a woman’s vagina”. Let’s dive into the Myntra logo controversy before seeing the worst logo fails.
When you see the ‘M’, it may seem completely normal but the different shades of pink and orange, tell a different story. Activists were determined to cancel the brand as this is offensive to women. Social media joined in, said that the logo was “indecent and denigrating to women”.
Naaz Patel, A Mumbai-based activist filed a case to Mumbai’s cyber cell of Mumbai Police saying that the logo is “insulting and offensive” to women. The complaint states that Myntra should change the logo or there will be legal action. She said, “We called a meeting with Myntra following the complaint, they (Myntra) came and agreed to change the logo. They have sent an e-mail as well on the same,”
Once the meeting was over, Myntra responded to the police saying “Pursuant to our meeting, we wish to inform you that we have decided to revise the Myntra Logo”. And they updated their website soon after with the new and improved logo of Myntra.
All said and done, I think this was a case drawn too far for a logo that has been around for years and wasn’t seen in this light before. However, there are some logos that are grossly wrong from their inception.
Let’s take you through some of the worst logo fails that will definitely make you laugh, and you just might notice a lot of fails that you miss at the first glance.
1.Yes, this is a milk box!
Now, we don’t expect something like this from a company like TESCO but then mistakes can happen everywhere.
2. Turn the OGC sideways and see what you get
We are damn sure you didn’t see that coming. OGC stands for Office of Government Commerce, a UK government office. The media coverage of the problem with the logo left the officials red-faced, forcing them to change the logo in 2008.
3. An Olympic that will also be remembered for the worst logo.
Can you believe that this logo design cost $800,000 in 2012 (approx Rs. 5.82 Crores as per the current conversion rate)? The logo which was described as “unconventionally bold, deliberately spirited and unexpectedly dissonant” by the creators failed to strike any chord with people, whether Londoners or the international audience.
4. Umm.. what?
Don’t see any problem with the logo? You might have to look twice, maybe thrice, to understand what’s wrong with this logo. I am sure that even the creators of the logo didn’t realize what were they making.
5. Was that supposed to be Fitforever?
A logo that seemingly reads FATFOREVER sounds like a bad deal for a fitness centre. The intent was to replace the ‘i’ in ‘Fit’ by the running person but it turned out to be totally wrong as it looks more like an ‘A’ than an ‘I’
6. That institute seems to be a bit too harsh!
7. Imagine seeing that outside every pharmacy door!
8. Cannot unsee it now!
The Myntra logo issue looks so trivial in front of this logo.
9. Umm… probably the worst of logo fails!
10. Yeah, quite a well lit logo
Logos like these make you wonder if the marketing department themselves looked at the logo before approving it. If they did, then they must be having super-vision to look at this logo for more than 1 millisecond, cos I can’t.
Bonus: Logo for Locum, a Swedish property management company.
