Tenet: The most awaited Hollywood movie released in India.
Tenet is one of the most awaited 2020 Hollywood movies of 2020 was released on 4 Dec in India and the fans can’t wait to watch the movie. It is a Sci-Fi action-thriller written and directed by Christopher Nolan, and produced by Emma Thomas. This movie is a co-production between the United States and the United Kingdoms.
The plot revolves around a US secret service agent, as he manipulates the flow of time to avoid and stop World War III. The cast of the movie includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Micheal Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
The story behind the movie
Christopher Nolan conceived Tenet almost 2 decades back and he took his time (almost a decade) to deliberate on the central ideas behind Tenet. A busy and meticulous man that he is, it took him more than five years to write the screenplay of the movie.
The shoot of the movie started in mid-2019 and was finished by the end of 2019 but the post-production of the movie got impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie was eventually released in the UK in August 2020 and in the US in September 2020, after the release getting delayed thrice due to the pandemic.
The movie boasts of grand scenes and sequences especially the time manipulation ones, however, all this came at a high cost, swelling up the budget of the movie. Nolan shot the movie across 7 countries i.e., Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States and instead of using CGI, thousands of extras were used in some of the scenes to retain the authentic look and feel.
As you can see in the above video, Nolan actually blew up an actual Boeing 747 plane instead of using special effects for the same as he found the real plane to be more effective. Due to the high budget of the movie, which obviously included the cost of the Boeing 747 too, the movie has failed to recover the money for the makers despite being the 4th highest-grossing film of 2020.

The Cast and Characters
John David Washington who plays the CIA agent
John plays the protagonist, when he is captured by the mercenaries, he takes a cyanide pill and then he wakes up to find out that it was a loyalty test. He is then employed by the secret organization named Tenet, where he meets a scientist who shows him a new kind of bullet. The technology behind these “bullets with inverted entropy” gives the bullets the ability to move back in time.
Robert Pattinson as Neil
Pattinson plays the role of the protagonist’s handler. He tells the agency every step of the mission. From traveling back in time to fighting or cracking deals. He is a key character in the movie and crucial to securing and breaking the algorithm and it turns out that he had a long history with John, one that John wasn’t aware of (something that’s only possible in a time-travel movie).
Kenneth Branagh as Andrei Sator
He plays the role of a Russian oligarch who communes with the future. He has pancreatic cancer due to which he is dying and all he wanted was to prompt the algorithm of the time travel device using a dead man’s switch. In short, he wanted the entire world to end when he did.
Dimple Kapadia as Priya Singh
The veteran Indian actress plays the role of an arms trafficker in Tenet. The agency tracks her and eventually finds out that she is a part of the Tenet movie. The CIA agent finds out that her cartridges were bought and then later on time-inverted by a Russian oligarch which then ends up leading them to Andrei Sator.
Elizabeth Debicki as Katherine “Kat” Barton
This movie shows Elizabeth Debicki as an art appraiser. She is also married to Andrei Sator. The Protagonist finds out that Kat without knowing ended up selling the Russian oligarch a faked Goya drawing. Sator uses the drawing to keep Kat blackmailed and to keep her under his control.
Why is it the most awaited movie?
Christopher Nolan is mostly known for his amazing scripts and great direction. He has made movies like Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk that the audience loved. The Tenet movie has already created so much hype, it is definitely one of the most awaited movies and would definitely be a hit. Due to the pandemic, the release date keeps getting postponed.
Another reason for excitement amongst Indian movie lovers is the much-talked-about role of Dimple Kapadia, as an arms trafficker, in the movie.
