A recent study shows that AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT have the potential to efficiently manage and operate a software company with little human involvement.
According to Gizchina, researchers from Brown University and Chinese universities conducted a study to test whether a computer program, specifically ChatGPT version 3.5, could generate software without extra training. They established a fictional software company, “ChatDev,” and divided the process into four phases: planning, coding, testing, and writing instructions.
They provided the necessary instructions to the computer programs to carry out each phase of the task effectively.
The computer programs involved in the project were assigned distinct roles and duties. Some acted as “programmers” and “art designers” during the “coding” phase, while others took on positions like “CEO” and “CTO” in the realm of “strategic planning.”
The news portal also reported that after assigning ChatDev 70 tasks, the study discovered that it could finish software development in under seven minutes, all for less than a dollar. Impressively, it had the ability to identify and rectify issues independently. The research indicated that approximately 86.66% of the software it generated was deemed to be of impeccable quality.
The study highlights the remarkable potential of AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, to efficiently manage software development tasks with minimal human intervention.
