Records that have been broken in IPL already

IPL and breaking of old records/making of new records go hand in hand. Each IPL brings in a new wave of excitement and even higher standards of performance. We saw many new records being created in IPL 2020 and we were all expecting many new records in 2021. Our favorite cricketers didn’t disappoint us. Here are all the records that have been broken in IPL already since the very first game and some that’ll be broken soon.

Harshal Patel – Surprise package

Records that have been broken in IPL already Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel claimed 5 dismissals against Mumbai Indians and created a new record of becoming the first bowler to achieve this. No other bowler has bagged a 5-wickets haul against MI in the past 12 seasons.

No one beats Kohli in IPL

Kohli IPL Record

Virat Kohli’s 33 runs knock helped him cross the 5900 runs mark in IPL. He is the first batsman to amass more than 5900 runs in IPL. We are very sure that pretty soon he will cross 6000 runs landmark as well, that’s a record waiting to be broken.

Ending with a not-so-good one

After their defeat in the opening match at Chinnaswami Stadium on 9th April, Mumbai Indians team outdid themselves. Now they have lost 9 season-opening matches in the IPL, practically all the openers. A notorious record to hold and something that will haunt them till the next IPL season.

So as of now, we have 3 big records that were broken, however, in the second IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals we are expecting some more records to be broken. Here are some of them

MS Dhoni

MS Doni Wicketkeeper record

MS Dhoni has 148 dismissals to his claim as a wicketkeeper in IPL. He is just short of 2 dismissals to create history. He will be the first wicketkeeper ever in the IPL to have effected 150 dismissals.

Mahi has also caught 109 batsmen behind the stumps. He’s just 1 catch short of catching up with Dinesh Kartik (110 catches behind the stumps) and another one to break Dinesh Kartik’s record.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan IPL record

The mighty hard-hitter has hit 591 boundaries in the 175 matches he has played in IPL so far. He is just 9 boundaries away from becoming the first-ever player to have hit 600 boundaries in IPL.
