One charger for all devices? Govt plans to implement ‘One Nation, One Charger’ DETAILS Inside

You may no longer need to untangle your laptop, smartphone, and tablet chargers. Or you’ll have to remember to bring them. The government is forming expert committees to investigate the use of universal chargers for cell phones and other portable electronic devices. After that, a full report is expected to be submitted in two months.

One Nation, One Charger Policy

The government intends to implement the ‘Common Charger Policy,’ also known as the ‘One Nation One Charger’ strategy. All of the devices we use in our daily lives, such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other wearable devices, will have a standard or universal charger, according to this policy.

Prior to implementing the ‘One Nation, One Charger’ strategy, the government met with all of the major stakeholders in the Indian mobile industry. If it is successfully implemented, it will aid in the reduction of e-Waste on a larger scale. Furthermore, it will address a major issue in our daily lives: the use and transportation of multiple chargers.

To move the proposal forward, expert groups must consider clubbing electronic devices based on power requirements. As a result, laptops could be classified separately from smartphones, harmonising charging speeds and giving consumers the option of purchasing devices with or without chargers, lowering costs.

The advantages of common chargers are obvious, as are the transition costs. Impact analysis would aid in identifying and resolving issues that may arise as a result of consolidating charging options, allowing for an effective and efficient change without impeding technological progress.

A one-charger policy is also expected to be widely supported by the public. Original equipment manufacturer chargers and charging cords may be expensive. A LocalCircles poll found that nine out of ten customers want the government to standardize charging cables for smartphones and tablets.
