There’s more than a month for IPL to start but this year’s IPL auction has already upped the excitement levels. The highest bid for a player went as high as 16 crores and the lowest was 20 Lacs. Some of the most expensive players in IPL history earn more than what a Bollywood celebrity earns in a year.

As per the IPL auction rules, each player has a reserve price and all competing teams have to bid above the reserve price to buy a player for their team. The team that bids the highest gets the player. Right from the first season, we have seen that the bidding gets fierce for good players and the teams have to shell out more than what they budgeted for. This eventually results in lower bids for the rest of the players.

Chris Morris

When Chris Morris decided his base price at Rs. 75 lacs he had no idea that he was going to create history by becoming the most expensive player in the IPL to date.

The fierce bidding for Chris Morris between Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, saw Rajasthan Royals coughing up Rs. 16.25 Crores to pick him up eventually.

Yuvraj Singh

Before Chris Morris, it was Yuvraj Singh who enjoyed being the most expensive IPL player ever for 5 years. Delhi Daredevils have purchased Yuvraj Singh for a whopping sum of Rs. 16 Crores in 2015. The difference isn’t much but Yuvraj now sits in second place in the list of the most expensive players in the IPL history.

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins came very close to breaking Yuvraj’s record in the 2020 season of IPL. Last year, Kolkata Knight Riders had picked Cummins for a bid of Rs 15.5 crore. He couldn’t break Yuvraj’s record, however, he created a new record for the highest-paid overseas player in the IPL ever. Although, now this title also has been taken by Chris Morris.

Interestingly, when Cummins made this record in 2020, Chris Morris was nowhere near Cummins and managed to get Rs. 10 Crores as the highest bid.

Kyle Jamieson

Kylie Jamieson had no idea how much Rs 15 crore would be in New Zealand’s currency as he got to know about the highest bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 3-way match between Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Kings IX Punjab that led to intense bidding surely made Jamieson a very happy man.

I am sure by this time he would have figured out how much money is it in his country’s currency, nonetheless, for our readers, Rs. 15 Crores converts to almost 28 lacs New Zealand Dollar.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is India’s favorite. Not just because of his name (and how it was related to Virat’s shouting on the ground) but also because he is one of the highest-paid overseas players in the IPL. In the year 2017, Ben Stokes was purchased by Rising Pune Supergiants for Rs. 14.5 Crores. He’s now the 4th most expensive player ever in the history of IPL.
