Funny parody movies you shouldn’t miss – Part 2

We hope you liked our previous post on this subject “Funny parody movies you shouldn’t miss – Part 1“. This time we are highlighting another set of funny parody movies especially the ones that became such a hit that their sequels were made. I’d say Scary Movie and Austin Powers are my favorites, we’ll have to wait for yours till you watch these.

Let’s get on to it once again and set you up for watching these hilarious spoofs.

Spy Hard (Parody of Die Hard)

IMDb Rating: 5.4

Secret agent ‘WD-40’ Dick Steele teams up with raunchy K.G.B. agent Veronique Ukrinsky. Together they race to stop the evil General Rancor from destroying the world. Although received negatively by critics, the film was a hit with the audience. It garnered a thick profit by grossing $26 million against a production budget of $18 million.

The James Bond-esque comedy filled with lead actor Nielsen’s trademark spotlight-stealing sight gags, combined with some awfully exaggerated accents by the cast, will leave you in splits long after it is over.

A Man Called Sarge (Spoof on war movies)

Funny parody movies A man called Sarge
IMDB Rating: 4.9

A Man Called Sarge is set during World War II and is about a half-witted and untrained squad of US soldiers. They are trying to fight the Germans in North Africa under the command of a street-smart platoon Seargent literally named ‘Sarge’. It is a spoof of various classic war movies and has gags around the stereotypes of that genre.

Fatal Instinct (Parody of erotic thriller movies)

Funny parody movies Fatal Instinct
IMDb Rating: 5.8

This 1993 film’s title is a combination of Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct. The movie is a combination of genuinely laugh-out-loud gags and sight scenes and silly lines. It consists of cheating, murder, stalking and even bizarre resurrections. The basic plotline is that a lawyer named Ned cheats on his wife, while his wife is also cheating on him.

Not just that, she is also planning on killing him for the insurance money. It’s the kind of movie you watch when you don’t want anything deep or dramatic but just want to laugh and relax.

Airplane! (Parody of Zero Hour! and disaster movies)

Funny parody movies Airplane Parody of zero hour
IMDb Rating: 7.7

Perhaps one of the most iconic parody movies of all time, Airplane! is a movie about a man who afraid of flying having to do just that by making sure he lands a plane safely after the pilots fall sick. Airplane! was a critical and financial success, grossing $158 million worldwide against a budget of just $3.5 million.

The film was released in 1980 and is arguably one of the funniest movies ever made, with many other spoof movies trying and failing to emulate its success for years to come.

The Scary Movie Franchise (Parody of horror movies)

Funny parody movies scary movie

The Scary Movie series is a famous horror spoof series that gained mainstream attention upon release. The films perfectly mock many popular horror movies such as Friday the 13th, He Knows You Are Alone, Psycho, etc. while paying homage to them at the same time.

Anna Faris delivers a goofy and sometimes shocking performance in the films. There are 5 parody movies in the series and it is highly recommended for slapstick humor lovers. The first movie is the highest-grossing one and is about a group of teens who accidentally murder a man and start being hunted down by a masked killer exactly one year after the incident.

1. Scary Movie 1 (2000) IMDb Rating – 6.2/10

The Naked Gun Franchise (Parody of TV series Police Squad!)

Funny parody movies the naked gun

This franchise revolves around an incompetent police detective named Frank Drebin and his missions and misadventures. It was created by famous American comedy filmmaking trio Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker. All three films in the series are based on Police Squad, a parody show of police crime dramas that was cancelled after six episodes and was by the same creators.

1. The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
2. The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) IMDb Rating: 6.9/10
3. The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994) IMDb Rating: 6.5/10

The Austin Powers Franchise (Parody of James Bond Movies)

Funny parody movies austin powers

Austin Powers, a fictional character, is a 1960s secret agent who was placed in cryofreeze for decades but is finally brought out in the 1990s to oppose his greatest enemy. The movie is full of hedonistic humor, and it is hilarious watching Powers try to move into a society where his own attitudes are glaringly out of place due to the generational gap.

The trilogy was wildly successful, and we’re not saying that lightly. For some perspective, the second movie raked in a whopping $312 million worldwide, when compared to its $33 million budget.

1. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) IMDb Rating: 7/10
2. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) IMDb Rating: 6.6/10
3. Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) IMDb Rating: 6.2/10
