A video from Punjab has recently gone viral on social media for being the oldest flour mill. This video was posted by a blogger named Jugraj Singh on his Instagram channel, food founder_, with the caption “600 years old Atta Chakki in Punjab.” This video has been viewed by over a million Instagram users and liked by over 5.7 lakh people.

About The Video

According to the video, this chakki is called ‘Kraat’ and has been located in Fatehgarh Churian of Gurdaspur district since the time of the Britishers, which is why this chakki or flour mill is so old. This flour mill runs at the speed of the water, which is one of the many reasons why this video is going viral. Isn’t it surprising?

According to the person who describes this flour mill, the Chakki works with a strong current of flowing water that never stops. If you happen to visit this chakki, you will notice that the milled flour is always hot; however, the mill’s speciality is that the resulting flour is always cold.

Benefits of traditionally milled flour

This chakki takes us back to a time when people could get fresh flour milled using traditional methods. Freshly milled flour is more nutritious than flour purchased in a sealed package. This is also one of the reasons why many people nowadays are unable to digest chapatis and develop gluten allergies. A person’s health is also preserved when they consume freshly milled flour. These antique flour mills are now only found in a few isolated locations. Not only that but freshly milled flour tastes better than packaged flour and produces soft chapatis.
