iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max Show Stronger GPU Performance with A17 Pro Chip Upgrade

The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, launched this month, boast significant GPU performance improvements. Both Pro models now come with the A17 Pro chip, while the regular versions use the A16 Bionic chip from last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. Apple claims that the A17 Pro chip, built on a 3nm process, features 6 GPU cores that are up to 20% faster than the previous version while also being more energy-efficient. In simpler terms, these new iPhones have much better graphics performance, making them more powerful and efficient for various tasks.

MySmartPrice has released GFXBench benchmark results for three models within the iPhone 15 series: the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Plus. Interestingly, in certain tests, the A17 Pro chip appears to surpass Apple’s announced GPU performance improvements from the ‘Wanderlust’ launch event on September 12. This suggests that the new iPhones may deliver even better graphics performance than initially anticipated.

When compared to the iPhone 15 Plus equipped with the A16 Bionic chip, the iPhone 15 Pro showcased better performance in the Aztec Ruins High Tier Offscreen test. According to the report, the iPhone 15 Pro models delivered approximately 8 additional frames per second compared to the iPhone 15 Plus in this benchmark test. Moreover, in the Normal Tier Offscreen test, the Pro model reportedly outperformed last year’s iPhone 14 Pro by rendering 10 more frames per second. These results indicate significant graphics improvements in the iPhone 15 Pro, enhancing the user experience for various applications and tasks.

In the Manhattan 3.1 Offscreen test, the A17 Pro chip demonstrated a remarkable 48fps improvement compared to the iPhone 15 Plus equipped with the A16 Bionic chip. This translates to an impressive increase of nearly 31.5 percent over the previous generation chipset. These findings suggest that the GPU performance of the new iPhone 15 Pro models might surpass the performance levels Apple initially claimed during its presentation, indicating even more potent graphics capabilities.

It’s essential to remember that benchmarks, although valuable, provide only part of the picture when assessing a smartphone or computer’s performance. Several additional factors, including ambient temperature and software optimization, play a crucial role in overall performance.

In a previous report, it was revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come with 8GB of RAM. This marks the first time Apple has increased the RAM in its smartphones since the launch of the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. Apple typically doesn’t disclose the RAM or battery capacity of its devices, but this information is often uncovered through benchmarks and teardowns a few weeks after the devices are released.

The iPhone 15 Pro series’s impressive GPU performance improvements, exceeding Apple’s claims, are promising for users seeking enhanced graphics capabilities. Additionally, the increase in RAM in these models suggests Apple’s commitment to delivering more powerful and capable smartphones. Like this post?
