Reasons Why Bhaag Beanie Bhaag Is A Must-Watch
“Bhaag Beanie Bhaag“, a web series casting Swara Bhaskar as the protagonist, is ranking under the top 10 in India. The title itself attracted countless Indians even before its release.
The trailer suggested that the new web series is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel rip-off. Just as Mrs. Maisel looked forward to becoming a stand-up comedian rather than choosing a happy married life, Swara Bhaskar (Beanie Bhatnagar) leaves behind her boring fiancé and luxurious life to walk ahead to achieve her dreams.
However, the series maintains its originality.
Why is BBB a must-watch?
- It sweet but it’s short too and that makes it so very binge-worthy. You can watch it from start to finish (all 6 episodes) in 2 hours flat.
- All the performances are great and so is the humour. In the times of web series based on crime and bloodshed, BBB comes as a soothing watch and of course makes you laugh as well.
- And well, if you are a girl, you don’t need any other reason to watch Beanie’s life story, as her struggle to find what she wants from her life will surely resonate with any girl who’s trying to make a mark in the sexist society that we live in. If you are a man, you must watch it to understand the women around you better.
- Other than Swara, watch out for Dolly Singh and Ravi Patel.
- Mona Ambegaonkar and Girish Kulkarni have a cute, kiddish, and funny personality. More like we all would want a mother like Mona but may cry our ass out because of a father like Kulkarni.
- Another reason BBB is a must-watch is that it can be watched with a family. Except for one odd scene where Beanie and Ravi are shown making love in a public toilet (without any obscene body exposure), the series is clean and a comfy watch with the family, unless you are a totally orthodox family where the F word and the usual cuss words are taboo.
The series is entertaining and fun to watch and yet it hits hard on the expectations of society from a girl. My reaction was truly surprising as I watched Kulkarni meeting an astrologist to get rid of the ghost residing inside Beanie Bhatnagar who sees nothing but herself on the stage accomplishing all her dreams.
BBB is not focused on jokes that Swara makes during a stand-up act so you should not expect a lot of stand-up humour from the series as it is a story about a stand-up comic and not a standup act per se. I was also very impressed by Dolly Singh and Ravi Patel who did an immense job in putting forth their roles.
Even though Dolly doesn’t have as much part as Ravi has, she played it well enough to leave her imprint. The fact that she just appeared in her first web-series, yet gave her best is an indication that we can expect to see her on the screen a lot more than what she might have expected herself. If not Swara Bhaskar, you will fall for Dolly Singh and her completely nonjudgmental character as Beanie’s best friend.

Swara Bhaskar is a great actor and a very controversial personality so naturally, she has a good number of critics outside her industry as well. We have seen Swara as a very strong woman and with all the confusion and doubts that Beanie had, it felt that Swara’s connection with her character lacked somewhere. When the makers decided to cast a strong personality like Swara in the role of Beanie, it only made sense to make the character even bolder and more confident.
Beanie Bhatnagar was supposed to be a bold character, yet she looks confused most of the time, struggling to find peace between a boring job, her fiancé and her dreams.
As talented as Swara is, I would have loved to see a lot more from her to create a more memorable character out of Beanie. Although, I’d put more responsibility on the makers and screenplay than on Swara for the slight dampening of spirits over here.
Ravi Patel
As I said, more than Swara Bhaskar you would love another casting character i.e. Ravi Patel.
No doubt! He is the best. Girls would die for his accent. The best part of BBB when he pronounces the word ‘gaau’. He’s a gem of a character. You’ll love him just as much as a friend and a stand-up comedian as you will hate him for being a mean person, towards the end of the series, for cheating on his wife and portraying to the world that she cheated on him instead.
The best part, however, is that in the end, despite his moral digressions he is able to gain your sympathy and makes you feel for him once again. But hey! there is more to Ravi Patel.
Did you know he is a stand-up comic based out of the US in his real life as well? Well, we’ve got some more stuff on him for you.
In BBB, Ravi Patel claims to be an investment banker before he became a comic and surprises Beanie, guess what? He was an investment in his real-life too and then he quit his job to become a comic.
He’s also an actor and has appeared in many commercials, films and TV shows. He also co-directed and starred in Meet the Patels, a documentary he made with his sister about his own journey of trying to find an Indian wife. The documentary won the audience award at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2014.
Ravi Patel also acted in Wonder Woman 1984, slated for a release in India on Christmas of 2020.
Patel is also a philanthropist. He’s one of the co-founders of This Bar Saves Life, a company that donates a meal packet for every granola bar they sell. The company has already donated millions of nutrition packets in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, South Sudan and Philippines.
Dolly Singh
Dolly Singh, a YouTube influencer has a huge fan following. Like Ravi Patel, she also plays part in the series as a social influencer that she is in her real life, albeit she has a different name in the series.
I am sure everybody knows her. If you don’t, I must suggest you visit her profile on Instagram.
Being her first time, she has done an immense job. Dolly Singh is a dream best-friend who lets Beanie be herself throughout the series. Doesn’t judge her or stop her. But supports her being real. Her character was also mean sometimes, but then “Unadulterated Truth” is all that we expect from a true friend, right?
Dolly had her first stint with acting when she started playing “Raju ki mummy” on her chat show on Youtube.
She was born in Nainital, Uttarakhand in a middle-class family. Her parents run a gift shop in Nainital. What I love the most about her is that despite her current flamboyant lifestyle, she hasn’t forgotten her humble beginnings and even made a video of her house in Nainital showing her house as it is. She moved to Delhi for higher education and graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.
She did her Masters in Fashion Management from NIFT, Delhi but instead of becoming a fashion designer, she decided to become a fashion blogger ( check out her blog “Spill the Sass“). All that we can say is that it worked out pretty well for her.

Varun Thakur
Who doesn’t like his stand-ups? I love them!
The fact that he being an actual comedian played the role of a boyfriend who doesn’t understand a comedian’s dream. Well, I felt a bit off with this acting. He wasn’t the greatest but cute. If he’s looking forward to another series or movie, I would love deeper acting from his side.
And I would give a 10/10 for the hard work that he might have had to put in for the dance sequence.
One last point to ponder, out of the 4 main actors Swara, Dolly, Ravi and Varun – Swara who played the role of the protagonist stand-up comic is the only actor who is not a comic herself. Even Dolly Singh qualifies as a comic due to her vines and funny videos that are so popular with her fans.
