Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max launched – Is it worth the money?

Redmi phones are all over India. Almost every other person has a Redmi phone. The reason why they are so popular? That’s because they are affordable and yet full of features available in costlier phones. After looking at the specification of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, it may be hard to believe that it is a mid-range budget phone.

Redmi has gone off the charts, there is almost everything that you would want in your phone, other phones in the same price range don’t seem as though they are worth it. Or maybe Redmi Note 10 Pro Max shouldn’t belong to this list, because a phone as good shouldn’t be as cheap.

Xiaomi asked its users on a Twitter poll, what would users prefer on the Redmi Note 10 series, best LCD + 120Hz or AMOLED. The majority said AMOLED. Later on, the poll was deleted which lead many to believe that the Note 10 series in fact would have a 120Hz LCD display. Turns out all of that was wrong.

Xiaomi shocked everyone on D-Day when they launched Redmi Note 10 Pro Max with another first in the mid-budget segment – ‘120Hz Super AMOLED display’. It just doesn’t end there. There are several improvements to the new series.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max can peak 1200nits making it HDR 10-ready.

It also supports 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, with a 2.96mm punch hole cut-out (the smallest of any Redmi Note to date) along with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The screen size is 6.67 inch with FHD resolution and Display (just like Note 9 Pro Max)

The design has been refreshed too with a new ‘frosted glass’ back available in three colorways including Vintage Bronze, Glacial Blue, and Dark Night. The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint reader that doubles as a quick ‘double tap’ shortcut button.

The best feature of the phone is the Camera of course. The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max is the 4th phone in India that has an amazing 108MP main camera. There other three cameras that are almost the same are, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max with some tweaks.

This is Xiaomi’s fourth phone (in India) to come with a whopping 108MP main camera (Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor), after the Mi 10, Mi 10T Pro and Mi 10i. Of course, it is the most affordable one on that list.

There are three other cameras, which are essentially the same as the ones on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max with some tweaks. There is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field-of-view, 5MP ‘telemacro’, which means that it can serve double duty as macro and telephoto (for 2x zoom). The other 2MP depth rear camera is for portrait photography. On the front, it comes with a 16MP camera.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor (8-core, 8nm) paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, up to 128GB UFS2.2 storage (non-expandable) and dual-layer graphite cooling.

Interestingly, it is the first Xiaomi phone in India to run Android 11-based MIUI 12 out-of-the-box. It will also be one of the first few Xiaomi phones to get MIUI 12.5, the next version of MIUI with a revamped system UI, and more uninstallable system apps. Xiaomi seems to be moving slow on uninstalling system apps, nonetheless, every such step is a welcome move.

Battery capacity is same as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max—5,020mAh with 33W fast charging. But what’s different is that Xiaomi has been able to (now) accommodate that it in a sleeker body. The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max is 0.7mm thinner and 16g lighter than Redmi Note 9 Pro Max despite all the extra hardware.

It also features dual stereo speakers with Hi-Res audio support, IP52 splash resistance, IR blaster, 360-degree ambient light sensor, Z-axis vibration motor, and 3.5mm audio jack.
