World Emoji Day is an annual unofficial holiday intended to celebrate emojis. The day encourages everyone to use emojis to send unique messages. About World Emoji Day

Shigetaka Kurita 1990 created a Japanese expression, that roughly means “picture word” while working for the Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo as a feature on their pagers to make them more appealing to teens. However with time, to nab the Japanese market, Apple came up with the release of the first iPhone in 2007 which had an emoji keyboard embedded into the phone.
