Who’s Binod and why did his name trend?
It takes a celebrity or a real badass person for their name to trend across different social media, but it’s a lot different for ‘Binod’. What are the odds that an unknown youtube user will become the trending topic overnight with even celebrities and brands tweeting on the topic? Very very low.
Unless it’s Binod. So here is what really happened that made Binod the most trending topic, not only in India but across the globe. On July 15, 2020, a YouTube channel ‘Slayy Point’, owned by YouTubers Abhyudaya and Gautami, posted a video.
The video was titled “Why Indian Comments Section is Garbage (BINOD)” and showcased the most irrelevant, meaningless and illogical comments made under various videos on their channel.
The video listed a number of odd comments left by youtube users but the highlight of the video was a user named ‘Binod Tharu’ who just left his name as a comment against one of the videos.
This baffled and amused other youtube users and soon the word (Binod) spread to other social media. This was fodder for netizens and all the meme creators who are always on the lookout for new sensational stuff. Soon enough ‘Binod’ memes were all over the social media and #Binod started trending. With everyone asking who’s ‘Binod’ even celebrities tweeted with #Binod enjoying the trend.

Within 2 days every YouTuber, Twitter account and the content website was spinning off quick content to catch up with the new trend.
And soon enough people started answering the question ‘Who is Binod?’
However, this wasn’t the answer that netizens were interested in. The mindless comment has raised a bigger question about who are these people that make such comments and what’s the motivation to post such comments?
The answer to this couldn’t be 1 single user, so the quest went on and on till we got the right answer. Everyone is Binod. And the Twitterati just loved the answer, it was bang on. Soon enough another wave of #Binod
And while all this was going on some users decided to give another twist to the trending topic and decided to change their own name to Binod temporarily and like everything else related to #Binod this too was lapped up by the Twitterati immediately.
Some users even asked Brands to change their name. Guess what? Paytm even obliged the request of its followers.
Have a look at the fun that celebrities and Brands had when they tweeted about Binod in their own way. Quite obviously YouTube was one of the first to tweet.
Netflix India wasn’t too far behind when they tweeted Binod in a crossword-style post while mentioning their popular titles.
Joining the bandwagon, Tinder India declared that Binod is definitely on Tinder and also had fun when one of the followers asked Tinder ‘Tinder, Kya tum Binod ho?’ replying ‘Tauba Tauba’.
And then Tinder gave an update as well 🙂
Even the Mumbai Police and other government department handles jumped into action and passed on their message to all the ‘Binods’ out there.
And to wrap it up, on 8th August Slayy Point came out with another video about Binod in collaboration with Bhuvan Bam, Technical Guruji, BeerBiceps, Angry Prash and The Great Khali.
