Why does her rendition of ‘Har Har Shambhu’ face criticism?

The reason for the uproar is that a Muslim cleric from Deoband has objected to her singing Hindu songs. Farmani is being chastised for singing ‘Har Har Shambhu,’ a song praising Lord Shiva.

They claimed that Hindu devotional songs should not be sung in mosques. It is against Islam, so Naaz should avoid it, he said. He called it a forbidden act and asked her to apologise to Allah (God) for it. He later issued a clarification, stating that he had expressed his opinion on the prohibition of singing and dancing in Islam.

Muslim cleric Mufti Asad Qasmi said that what Naaz did was forbidden in Islam, “See, I would say that the culture of dancing and singing is not encouraged by the religion of Islam. It is absolutely forbidden in Islamic culture. This girl who has sung this, apologize for singing this song to Allah.”

Farmaani said she has nothing to say to these people. She further said that it is not forbidden. “Everyone is using the voice given by God. We do not become Hindu by singing bhajan, we are only artists,” she added. Liked this post? Don’t forget to check out our other short stories in our Quick Read section.
