Good Luck Jerry Review – A quirky comic tale.

Good Luck Jerry is an official remake of the Tamil hit Kolamaavu Kokila, starring Nayanthara. It is the type of movie where the premise wins half the battle: an innocent-looking girl who gets sucked into the world of cocaine smuggling. The concept itself is full of dramatic possibilities.

About The Movie

Good Luck Jerry achieves a successful balance in the screenplay, as there is a consistent presence of gags throughout the narrative. It tells the story of Jerry, played by Janhvi Kapoor, who becomes entangled in the big bad world of the drug mafia. While some sequences drag and the story takes time to build up, Jerry’s adventure is a fun ride once you get into the world.

Sidharth Sengupta and his writing team devised a screenplay structure that includes a compilation of high points and gags every 20 minutes. While it takes some time to get used to the language, it all blends together beautifully in the world he has attempted to create. Jerry’s first encounter with drugs, her first interaction with the drug mafia, the intermission block, the episode in the truck where she is taking 100 kg of drugs with her entire family, the godown conversation where all characters end up playing Dumb Charades, and the climax are among the film’s best sequences. Not to mention, every scene with Deepak Dobriyal is hilarious.

Actor’s Performance

Janhvi Kapoor is excellent as Jerry. She is confidently underconfident, as the character demands, and effortlessly incorporates the element of being naive. In this film, she also shows off her comic timing for the first time, as well as the spark of being a part of a comedy entertainer. Deepak Dobriyal is a total hoot. His presence brings the screen to life, as he delivers some of the film’s best comic lines. Mita Vashisht is excellent as Jerry’s mother, and Jaswant Singh Dalal makes an impression. Actors Saurabh Sachdeva and Sushant Singh go above and beyond. The rest of the cast does an excellent job in their respective roles.

Overall, Good Luck Jerry is an entertaining ride despite some hiccups in the narrative. It’s a film made for the OTT, and this section of the audience should embrace the dark comedy space with open arms. Janhvi Kapoor and Deepak Dobriyal shine and make this a breezy weekend watch on the TV. Liked this post? Don’t forget to check out our other short stories in our Quick Read section.
