Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor had a spat on Twitter, but it’s not what you think!

Twitterverse hadn’t even recovered from Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana Ranaut’s online altercation when they woke up to Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor taking digs at each other. It was really confusing at first.

As they tweeted, the insults were getting more personal, with them commenting on their film choices and box office results.

But while the back-to-back jibes grew more confusing, people noticed that it could be a new marketing strategy. Yes, the fight on Twitter was, in fact, a promotional campaign for their new film ‘AK vs AK’, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane for Netflix.

It was truly unusual that Anurag Kashyap reacted like this to a tweet that was not even about him and it spiralled into an insult session that didn’t end very soon. What got people suspicious, was that Kashyap and Kapoor were known to be cordial in the past.

They have never really reacted in this manner unless it was absolutely necessary. Slowly, it became clear what this was about their new film, which is as unusual as their interaction.

What’s more interesting is this tiff did not end on Twitter. It continued during their trailer launch as well.

Calling ‘AK vs AK’ experimental is an understatement. At a trailer launch, the audience and press expect one trailer. This film had three! One trailer that the director was okay with, one that satisfied Mr. Kapoor and the last one that Mr. Kashyap approved of.

This entire affair was extremely confusing but also intriguing with both AK’s bickering while the host awkwardly tried to ease the tension.

A film with marketing like this really makes you wonder about its plot. Turns out, it’s not too far from this incident. The film is about Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor having bad blood between them and Kashyap kidnaps Kapoor’s daughter and shoots Kapoor who comes after Kashyap in search of his daughter.

All three trailers were different perspectives of this event and it’s safe to say, we haven’t seen anything like this before.

Even before movies were made for OTT platforms, social media was used as a tool to tell people about films. Now a days the web is such a lucrative platform to not only produce content but also promote it. The creators are stepping up their game to think of more creative marketing strategies.
