India’s Savitri Jindal becomes Asia’s new richest woman
Savitri Jindal, former Haryana Cabinet Minister and Emeritus Chairperson of the OP Jindal Group has surpassed China’s Yang Huiyan to become Asia’s richest woman. She is 72. She is worth USD 11.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. With her nine children, she is India’s wealthiest woman and controls the OP Jindal Group set up by her late husband, Om Prakash Jindal.

Yang Huiyan of China held the title of Asia’s richest woman prior to Savitri Jindal. Her position has deteriorated as China’s property crisis has harmed the country’s developers, including her Country Garden Holdings Co.
Who is Savitri Jindal?
Savitri was born in the Assam town of Tinsukia. She married Om Prakash Jindal, who founded the Jindal Group in 1952, in the 1970s. After her husband, OP Jindal, who founded the company, died in 2005, she took over as chairwoman of the Jindal Group. He was killed in a helicopter accident. Following her husband’s death, she took over the conglomerate that oversees steel production as well as cement, energy, and infrastructure. The corporation is a steel, power, mining, oil, and gas conglomerate. Her four sons, Prithviraj, Sajjan, Ratan, and Naveen Jindal, are in charge of each of her four business divisions.
Savitri’s Net Worth
Savitri’s net worth has more than tripled from $4.8 billion a few months ago to $17.7 billion currently. Her wealth saw a roller-coaster ride as it dipped 50% in 2019 and 2020. From $8.8 billion in 2018, her net worth dropped to $5.9 billion in 2019 and then to $4.8 billion in 2020.
But today, she has a net worth of $18 billion thanks to her conglomerate Jindal Group, which is involved in industries including metals and power generation. The company is the third-largest producer of steel in India and also operates in cement, energy and infrastructure.
