Social media and the internet, ask anyone who has experienced the depth, are weird and exciting places to be. Some of the internet challenges and fads have gone viral only because they were thought out of the box. They stand out because they are bizarre and carry a tag of being weird but exciting – as the internet and social media is the homeland to such activities.

These popular “challenges”, range from harmless to horrifying, from silly to helpful ones and from funny to dangerous ones. Here are some of the most popular challenges that went viral with social media, few faded with time and some made a comeback. See which all did you try or might want to try.

Mannequin Challenge

This challenge roots back to a high school student from Florida, who posted this challenge with a “#” on Twitter and Instagram. Eventually, the challenge gained popularity with other schools and later became an online sensation.

Even celebs like Michelle Obama, Ellen, and Adele participated in it. The challenge was a viral video trend in which a group of people is filmed frozen in a position depicting mannequins

Bottle-Flipping Challenge

This challenge went viral when a kid from North Carolina flipped a single bottle while performing on a talent show. Millions of views over YouTube paved the way for the challenge to go viral. Even a few apps tried to replicate the act and its experience.

The challenge requires you to flip a partially filled plastic water bottle in an attempt to land it upright. Sounds easy but requires great skills. Try It.

Kiki challenge

The #InMyFeelings challenge, aka #DoTheShiggy or the Kiki Challenge was started by an Instagram user. He himself posted the video of performing the dance. He tags himself as a comedian but this challenge was no comedy for some.

The challenge was to come out of the moving car and perform a dance step leaving the door open. Many got hurt while performing this

Ice Bucket Challenge

Ice bucket challenge aka ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was started by pro golfer Chris Kennedy who challenged one of his family members. This was used to spread awareness about ALS. The challenge picked up the pace on social media and people started tagging each other to complete the challenge.

The Challenge involved dumping a bucket of ice water over a person’s head, either by another person or self-administered.

Bottle Cap Challenge

After Taekwondo fighter and instructor Farabi Davletchin posted his video actor Jason Statham also got involved and posted his slow-mo video of the challenge.

The challenge went viral like anything and social media flooded with people attempting their kicks and lucks. Many celebs took part in this. The challenge was to side-kick the bottle cap to flip it open.

Blue Whale Challenge

Some of the challenges that existed and went viral were not so people-friendly like other challenges and were also physically dangerous. Blue Whale was one such challenge. A series of tasks assigned by an administrator for 50 days.

The last task for the challenge was to commit suicide. Apps related to this challenge were later removed and banned from all social platforms. Please do not try this challenge, educate young ones to not engage with anything like this challenge and immediately report to authorities if you see this challenge on any social media platform.
