Celebrities Who Own a Private Island

‘Money can’t buy happiness, but it can certainly buy an island.’ – a quote by someone who was happy after buying an island 🙂

Most celebrities around the globe have their own massive businesses, sports cars, big yachts, multi-million dollar mansions, etc. But the uber-wealthy amongst these have their own ‘Exclusive Private Island’, where they can lie-down and relax any time they want.

So let us take you on a journey to these mini-heavens, owned by some of the biggest names from the world of movies, music and business.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Blackadore Caye

The Titanic actor not only stars in big-budget movies but also earns big. He was included in Forbes’ annual list of highest-paid actors in 2008 and in 2009, he bought an island, Blackadore Caye, off mainland Belize.

The actor is a well-known environmental activist and thus he turned the place into an eco-friendly resort. Blackadore Caye was supposed to open its doors in late 2018, but as of yet, there’s still no word on when it will be open for reservations.

Johnny Depp’s Little Halls Pond Cay

One of the world’s biggest stars and world’s 3rd highest-grossing actor, Johnny Depp is also a proud owner of an Island. Back in 2003 while shooting for his film “Pirates of the Caribbean” he spotted the Island, Little Halls Pond Cay. He immediately thought of owning it and in 2004 he officially bought it for whooping 3.6 million dollars.

Talking about the island in an interview Depp said “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.”

Shakira’s Bond Cay

The beautiful Columbian pop star, Shakira teamed up with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz to buy the Island, Bond Cay, in the Bahamas where she can jet off to ‘Wherever, Whenever’ she wants.

Her aim is to turn Bond Cay into a low-density, carbon-neutral, luxury destination that will be an inspirational retreat for wealthy musicians and artists.

Nicolas Cage’s Leaf Cay

The American actor, director and producer who once was Hollywood’s highest-paid actor purchased Leaf Cay in the Bahamas way back in 2006. When the actor bought the island it was completely undeveloped and it barely had any facilities and needed plenty of care and attention. And now the Island is up for sale at a price of whooping 7 million dollars.

Celine Dion’s Ile Gagnon

Celine Dion is a Canadian singer and one of the best selling artists of all time. She bought herself a private Island and had an incredible castle custom-built. She with her family moved there in 2001.

However, Dion decided to sell it in 2012 and listed the stunning property which was eventually sold at a massive price of 25.5 million dollars in the year 2016. We wonder which celebrity owns it now!

Richard Branson’s Necker Island

Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group, was arguably the first famous face to popularise the idea of buying your own exotic island. He bought Necker Island when he was just 28 years old.

He made Necker Island into a luxury resort where one night will cost you a minimum of 77,500 dollars as of date. The place has become a home for big celebrity names such as Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela, Kate Moss, etc. The Island is so beautiful and prestigious that even Google’s co-founder Larry Page, who owns his own island, got married on Necker Island.

Ricky Martin’s Unnamed Island

The Spanish singer who is also known as “King of Latin Pop” is also a proud owner of an Island. In 2008 he spent 8 million dollars on the Island off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in the stylish resort region of Angra dos Reis.

Martin himself has spoken often about it being a slice of heaven. The Island is full of greenery, surrounded by clear blue water which gives the impression that it’s a good place for relaxing and no amount of stress could ever follow a person there.

Julia Roberts’s Unnamed Island

Julia Roberts, an American actress and producer, was the highest-paid actress in the world throughout most of the 1990s and in the first half of the 2000s. So this is not a surprise when we tell you that she also owns a small private island in the middle of The Bahamas.

She, although, will not be converting it into a resort for her fellow millionaires. Rather, Roberts purchased the island as a suitable vacation getaway for her husband and three children.

Larry Page Eustatia Island

Larry Page, one of the co-founders of Google, who is counted amongst the wealthiest people in the world, purchased a private island in the British Virgin Islands named ‘Eustatia’. The word Eustatia is a Greek-derived word meaning “good place to stay”.

Eustatia is a completely solar-powered Island and is a place that welcomes guests and offers luxury villas for rentals. It is also listed among the Top 20 Most Beautiful Islands in the World.

Beyonce’s Unnamed Island

Beyonce is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. She and her husband Jay-Z, who is s an American rapper and a songwriter, are the world’s most famous and successful power couple.

Both, Beyonce and Jay-Z like to show their appreciation for one another by giving each other lavish and expensive gifts and thus for their wedding anniversary, Jay-Z decided to give Beyonce a private Island in the Bahamas, as a present. I wonder how it feels to receive this kind of present.
