Classic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Maps May Return In The Reboot

With 2022 more than halfway through, gamers can start looking forward to the major releases scheduled for this fall and holiday season. There is a slew of popular franchises releasing new mainline entries towards the end of 2022, including Pokemon, Bayonetta, and, as tradition would have it, a new Call of Duty title. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is Activision’s second remaster of the Infinity Ward games, following 2019’s entry into the iconic shooter franchise. With an October release date fast approaching, more information about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is slowly being revealed.

More About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Rather than Activision revealing these details, a Call of Duty leaker known as TheGhostOfHope on Twitter has reported that there are internal ideas among both the game’s developer and publisher that the iconic maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 will be included in the remake by 2023. While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 contains many franchise-defining maps, such as Rust and Terminal, it is expected that not all of these will be included in the remake.

According to TheGhostOfHope, the plan is for all of the original Modern Warfare 2 maps to be included in the remake’s year two content. This is most likely an attempt by Activision to give Call of Duty fans something new in 2023, as there does not appear to be a new entry in the franchise at the time of writing. In addition to the original game’s maps, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2022 will have its own original multiplayer maps.

Some of these maps appear to be interesting and one-of-a-kind, such as Modern Warfare 2’s Marina Bay Grand Prix, which features a live Formula One race while players shoot each other. However, for many Call of Duty fans, no matter how beautiful the new maps are, they will fall short of the classic experiences that Rust and Terminal can provide.

Already, it appears that some of the old Modern Warfare 2 maps, such as Intervention, will be returning when the remake is released, but many of the classic arenas are likely to be saved for whenever Activision plans to release them as additional content. There is a chance that this will be officially confirmed or denied at Activision’s upcoming Modern Warfare 2 showcase.
