Top new cars announced in Auto Expo 2023

Despite a large number of carmakers opting out this year, the Auto Expo 2023 saw some exciting debuts and unveils. The Auto Expo, which was originally scheduled for 2022, was postponed because of the Covid outbreak. A biennial event of this scale is unheard of in India, which distinguishes the Auto Expo from other automotive exhibitions. Keeping track of all the launches and debuts may prove difficult. As a result, below is a ranking of the top ten automobiles at India’s largest automotive exhibition.

New Cars Announced In Auto Expo 2023

Hyundai Ioniq 5

On Day 1 of the Auto Expo 2023, Hyundai unveiled its most costly offering in India, the Ioniq 5 all-electric hatchback, in the presence of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. The hatchback costs Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ioniq 5 has a throwback design with some old-school accents and a boxy appearance. It is powered by a 72.6kWh battery pack that produces 217PS and 350Nm with the assistance of an electric motor. Hyundai claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.6 seconds and a maximum range of 631km (ARAI certified). The South Korean automaker has begun accepting bookings for the Ioniq 5 in dealerships across the nation for Rs 1 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny was perhaps the most popular vehicle at the Expo. The 4 SUV had been eluding the Indian market for a long time, and excitement peaked when Maruti Suzuki displayed a Jimny at the previous Auto Expo. The 1.5-liter engine is connected to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system sends power to all four wheels, coupled with a slew of other features that make it capable off-road. The prices have not yet been announced

Tata Sierra EV

The Sierra is another SUV with its own cult following and audience. Tata had previously shown another concept version at the Expo, but this time the SUV is more finished and nearly production-ready than a concept. The big news is that it will be an EV. The characteristic Sierra elements, such as the rear glass roof, will be kept, but instead of sliding doors, as in the previous prototype. Tata is expected to make some official announcements next year.

Tata Harrier EV

Tata went all-out at this year’s Expo, displaying the most automobiles. The all-electric Harrier Concept was one of their key draws. The Harrier EV Idea, which was based on a modified version of the current Harrier platform, was likewise more of a near-production-ready spec than an outright concept. Details are scant but expect it to be equipped with a twin-motor system, AWD, and a driving range of roughly 400km. The launch is scheduled for the end of 2023 or early 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Baleno-based coupe SUV Fronx was Maruti Suzuki’s second most popular model at the Auto Expo 2023. The Fronx is a high-end model that will only be available through Nexa. It has a front end similar to the Grand Vitara, as well as a sloping roof and pleasant looks. It will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine or a 100PS 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol. There are two transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. A 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, heads-up display, sunroof, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera are among the important features. Bookings for the Maruti Fronx, which will go on sale in April 2023, have already begun.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

The Maruti Suzuki eVX Concept was the first to be revealed at this year’s Auto Expo, and it was a significant one. It reveals Maruti’s electrification intentions and its first-ever all-electric model. When it comes in 2025, the eVX will compete with the Tata Nexon EV. Surprisingly, the numbers game excels at this notion. It will be built on an EV chassis, have a 60 kWh battery pack, a twin-motor system, AWD, and a stated range of 550 kilometers. Maruti Suzuki may possibly offer a version with a smaller battery pack to keep costs down.

MG Hector Facelift

The redesigned MG Hector was one of the few releases at the Auto Expo 2023. The SUV ranges in price from Rs 14.73 lakh to Rs 20.78 lakh, while the three-row Hector Plus now costs between Rs 17.50 lakh and Rs 22.43 lakh (both ex-showroom). A redesigned grille and connected tail lamps, as well as a brand-new cockpit with a large 14-inch touchscreen, are among the updates. ADAS, linked technology, and autonomous indicators are further highlighted.

Tata Altroz racer

The Altroz Racer is Tata’s answer to the popular Hyundai i20 N-Line. A dual-tone paint job with a black roof and hood that also features white stripes for a more sporty look is one of the key alterations. The largest difference is beneath the hood, where it inherits the 120PS 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. When it is released, it will be the most expensive but also the most powerful edition of the Altroz.

Kia Carnival

The only thing that the new Kia Carnival has in common with the old Kia Carnival is the name. The new MPV is a completely new vehicle from the ground up, as it has grown in size. The design shifts from the present MPV to a more upscale SUV-like attitude. The cabin is another place that has undergone significant alteration. A 3.5-liter V6 engine and a 2.2-liter diesel powerplant are available.

Tata Punch CNG

Tata has used the occasion to reveal the Tata Punch CNG. It employs the same 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This engine produces 73PS and 95Nm of torque. The sunroof option will be available in the Punch, as it was in the vehicle shown at the Expo. When it is released, expect it to cost approximately Rs 1 lakh more than the standard version.

That concludes the 2023 Auto Expo, which is set to run until the 18th of January. Despite the absence of certain major brands like Mahindra, TVS, Skoda, Volkswagen, Royal Enfield, and others, the Expo had a lot to offer. Like this post?
