As per the Drik Panchang, the Dwitiya Tithi will begin on November 14 at 2:36 PM and ends on November 15 at 1:47 PM. Tuesday from 1:10 pm to 3:19 pm is the ideal time for sisters to do Tilak Rituals.

Siblings Bond

Bhaiya Dooj is also known as Bhau Beej, Bhatra Dwitiya, Bhai Dwitiya and Bhathru Dwithiya. This festival is purely dedicated to Brother and Sister.

Mythological History

According to Hindu religion, after slaying the evil demon Narakasura, Lord Krishna visited his sister Subhadra who applied tilaka on Krishna's forehead. Some believe this to be the origin of the festival.

Significance

Bhai Dooj symbolises the strong bonding between a brother and sister. According to the Hindu calendar the holiday is usually held two days after Diwali.

On this day, sister applies tilak on her brother's forehead in hopes of bringing him long life and prosperity.

Harvest Festival

Bhai Dooj is also observed as a harvest festival in some areas. Farmers pray for a plentiful harvest in the upcoming year as the harvesting season comes to an end.
